iota values – about knowledge
All of us at iota have something in common. Probably more than a single thing, but there is one basic thing. We all know how to knit. Some of us are better at knitting, some of us less. But we all know how to take a crochet hook and create shapes, silhouettes and volumes from yarn. We all speak the language of knitting. And this knowledge connects us.
When we started our journey, we taught, guided and showed every woman her ability to create with her own hands.
“I knit” is both a professional statement and an expression of creative ability, skill and knowledge that is set in the body. It’s an ability to take a yarn and turn it into something with new meaning. The knowledge we pass on strengthens and empowers the women we work with and gives them a skill for life.
Crocheting is a basic skill. Today it can count as a part of the do-it-yourself world, it is not pretentious, it’s communicative, popular. With a little practice, anyone can learn the movement of the hand and hook, understand the strength of yarn holding and create patterns. This basic knowledge gives confidence to create more, and is a platform for endless learning and deepening. Knitting is a whole world of possibilities, from the art of creating patterns to mathematical models.
Preserving the knowledge of handicrafts that is passed down through the generations, and the connection to people are central values for us. Today, the knowledge of handicrafts is renewed and passed on also through new technologies, in videos, on the Internet, by means of artificial intelligence, but the basis always remains the same – the connection to the body and the person, and the transfer of the knowledge from one person to another.
In the modern world, where technology meets every field, there is comfort in knowing that the craft of knitting – an ancient and long-standing activity – still manages to connect peoples and cultures. Knitting, as an international language, is based on characters and skillful hands. Through it, we can communicate with women from different parts of the world and create deep and meaningful connections.
At iota we see handicraft knowledge as having real economic value. Throughout history, handicrafts have not been recognized and rewarded in the labor market, and we believe that this can and should be changed. Iota is a business based on a product that is entirely handmade. We are proud to continue to uphold the tradition and knowledge of knitting, in the hearts, minds and hands of many. We are committed to continuing to enrich the professional knowledge of every woman we meet along the way.
